Specialist Study Report
How have you demonstrated professionalism and commitment withing a regular and sustained practice?
Blog Work
I believe that I have shown professionalism as the work was created and further edited so it showed the best of my ability. I have also shown professionalism on my blog as the titles to the post are short but describe what is in each post well. As well as no slang has been used within the post.
I have shown commitment with my blog work as the majority of the blog work was posted within a week of the events happening in real time. I have also shown commitment with my blog work as no content has been deleted during the edits, although content has been added during the content. I have also kept a structure to my blog as the posts reside in the correct pages within the blog.
Some of the blog work completed were to do with either a production diary or progression. This shows my commitment to the industry as the word shows that I am willing to continue learning and growing in the industry. It shows professionalism as a makeup artist as notes are being made during production meetings and then summarized and uploaded to my blog under their respective titles.
Work Experience
Although I have not done much actual work experience, I have gained knowledge on how parts of the makeup industry work. This mainly includes the theatrical industry and the film industry.
Within the theatrical industry I worked on ‘Midsummer Night's Dream’. I learnt at the process of reading a script and then creating character profiles and makeup designs to follow. I stayed professional during this as I work with other people in to make sure the character profile and designs are coherent with one another. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the show could not go ahead meaning the makeup with the actors and cooperation with the other people in the industry such as hair and costume did not happen.
Within the film industry I worked on ‘Try as u Might’, ‘Run’ and ‘Holly, Jolly Christmas’. I was able to hone my skills at creating character profiles and makeup designs from a script. During this time, I also learnt how to cooperate with persons of from other areas of the industry, this includes both actors, film crew and the director. I stayed professional as while I was applying makeup to some of the actors for ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’ I adhered to their individual needs as they may have needed a break during the application process. They may have also had contraindications that I needed to be wary of as the products used would have varied.
I have shown commitment during all this as I continually met deadlines and continued to teach myself as much about the industries as I could at the time.
Stretching Challenge
Outside of college I have continually pushed myself to get better with my drawing, mood board and makeup skills. I have done this by creating an extra sketch book to fill with mood boards and their coherent designs. Theses design will later be created on myself or a model.
I have also continued to practice areas of makeup as I have continually practiced winged eyeliner and lips to get sharper edges as well as more symmetrical makeups.
I have stayed professional and shown commitment during this as the sketch book is set up in a particular way to create a professional looking workload. I have also continually used the cut-out method and a tidy workspace as well as clean, sanitized makeup brushes.
Edit - 15/03/2021 - Blue
I have also shown commitment to the industry as I continue to grow with in it while using other makeup artists and students as benchmarks to the standard of work, I hope to achieve in the future.
I have also shown professionalism as I have adhered to the industry standard for work attire. This includes dark clothing, short nails and unchipped nail polish if wearing any.
