The Materials used during this process were seaweed-based alginate, water, latex, gelatin and alcohol-activated paints.
The first step was to mix the alginate with water thoroughly, then we had to submerge our finger within the alginate making sure not to move it at all until the alginate had set.
After this, we carefully wiggled our finger to loosen it and carefully remove it from the now-created mould being careful not to damage it.
The next step was to pour some liquid latex into the mould. This was then moved around inside the mould to cover all the edges. This would pick up on any details left behind by our fingers for example fingerprints.
Once this was done the model was then flipped upside down and placed upon another cup, this would allow any excess latex to drain out before it sets.
Once the latex had set, we then melted down some gelatin in a microwave, this was then quickly coloured using fletching to match the undertones within our skin. While the gelatin was still molten this was quickly poured into the mould and left to set.
Once the gelatin had set, the mould was carefully removed from the cup and broken apart revealing the prosthetic.
After this, we used alcohol-activated paints to colour the latex matching our own skin tone creating a life-like appendage.
