Products and Hair Laying

Products
A few different products were used during the application and styling of the postiche pieces.
To apply the pieces I used an adhesive called Spirit Gum. This adhesive is fast acting which means that we have to apply these pieces quickly. When applying a dobber, which is a large cotton ball on a stick. This allows us to evenly spread the adhesive under the lace. This meant that the appliances would be secure on the model's skin. Before applying these the lace had to be cut into a jagged pattern to allow for easier blending to the skin.
This is quite a strong adhesive which means peeling the appliances away from the skin can cause pain for the model so they have to slowly and carefully be removed using Proclean, this loosens the glue allowing easier removal.
During styling, a couple of products were used these included styling wax which warmed between ones hands allows us to shape the hair into the desired shape although may not have the strongest of holds. This was true with my postiche pieces as they were quite thickly knotted so a second product had to be used to give it a longer-lasting hold.
This second product was Got2b hairspray. This is used in general day-to-day life for many people including those who wear wigs. Adding this product to the postiche pieces kept the hair in the desired style but caution was needed when applying as too much can cause the hair to go hard instead of allowing minor movements and adjustments.
Hair Laying
Hair laying includes the use of crepe wool or its counterparts to create the illusion of facial hair. This is mainly used when creating fake beards but is also used to cover patches in postiche appliances. The wool is torn apart and put together multiple times to allow the hairs to separate. The ends of these hairs are cut to the same length allowing for easier application. These hairs are attached to the skin using adhesive and a firm press to the skin. These can be then cut and styled to give the desired look.
