Although the full application wasn't fully completed the postiche pieces were styled and applied. This image was taken by the model before they were removed.
To apply the postiche piece, we had to cut the lace in a jagged pattern around the pieces as to make it easier to blend in with the model's natural skin. We then used an adhesive to attach the pieces to the model's skin, we would use a sort of stick with cotton on the end called a dobber to make sure that the adhesive had attached evenly to the lace and the skin of the model.
The pieces had to be removed shortly after applying as the model started to react to the adhesive used to attach them. They complained of a burning sensation that kept worsening over a few minutes. This led to them having to be removed quickly and the adhesive being cleaned off. Aftercare was needed to soothe this reaction we used cool water, a soothing toner and a calming moisturiser, this helped to soothe the reaction for the model and we advised them to take an antihistamine tablet to prevent a further reaction. The model had previously worked with this type of adhesive and never reacted before which lead us to believe the same would be true this time. This wasn't the case and they did indeed react to it.
The next time this adhesive is needed within an application, I will have to make sure to do a patch test on the model to make sure there is no reaction and that particular adhesive can be used on them. Otherwise, I would need to accommodate this reaction and use a different adhesive that would not react on the model's skin.
