FMP (Little Shop Of Horrors) Production Meeting 4

On Thursday 15th April, we held another production meeting.
During this meeting, we discussed the designs that were just created for The Girls of which had similarities within each smaller group, this included the colours used and the hair style for that particular character as these smaller groups were communicating with each other while they created the designs. For the character that myself, Abigail Seivers and Paige Goodings designed we decided to use natural/ nude eyeshadow, natural base, soft contour, light blush with pigtails in the hair. At this point we didn't assign a part name to the character as we would like to see what would work on each actress and what they would be happy to wear, this was because we want the actresses to feel comfortable underneath the makeup.
After this, we practiced areas of makeup that could be put into another design for Audrey 2.
These areas included,
- The Eye
- The Lips
- The Contour
- The Eyebrow
Multiple of each area were tried as different colours, sizes and shapes. This was done by most of the makeup team. I tried the eye multiple times and an idea for the lip later on in the script.
Below are some images of makeup ideas I did to contribute to the ideas we presented to the director.

After this, we watched the actors' rehearsal for ACT 1. The rehearsal had shown us that the show would be quite interactive with the audience and would be quite close, this meant that we had to design the makeup according to this as heavy contour and an eyeliner that is too far dropped on a smaller stage would make the talent feel alienated and would look out of place. Heavy contour is generally used to make the face look more structured under heavy lighting and from a distance. While a dropped eyeliner is used to make the talents eyes look larger from a distance.
After watching the rehearsal we presented the 90s mood board, the images of the makeup completed earlier and some designs that we thought the director would like. Thus allowing us to see what the director envisioned and come to a census about the designs for Audrey 2 and The Girls. This also allowed us to speak to the actresses playing this character so we could see what they liked and be able to tend to any needs they have.
We were also given time to ask the director any questions that we needed to ask. For example
- The lighting, which he responded with that there would be slightly coloured lighting at some times during the show and ambiance lighting used to set the mood through the show. This meant that we were able to plan the makeup accordingly
- The stage and audience size, which he responded that it would be a similar size to that of what we just witnessed and the audience would be limited due to the covid restrictions at the time

Once this was done, we returned to the classroom and delegated tasks to do before the next meeting. These would be creating designs for characters that hadn't previously been considered a lot. This include Mrs Mushnik and a glamorous woman (played by the same actress, Seymour (played by one actor) , Orin and a business man (played by the same actor), Audrey and her black eye, Mrs Luce, young woman and a business woman (played by the same actress) and a customer, news reporter, business woman, old woman (played by the same actress).
